Designed to Heal. Designed to Adapt. Designed to Thrive.
What if your body isn't working against you?
What if, most of the time, it's actually working for you?

DESIGNED TO HEAL. DESIGNED TO ADAPT. DESIGNED TO THRIVE.
The Body’s Natural Ability to Heal and Adapt
Your body is constantly doing things you never have to think about:
Your heart beats.
Your lungs breathe.
Your digestive system processes food.
Your immune system identifies threats.
Your brain processes an incredible amount of information.
Your muscles adjust your posture.
Your joints communicate with your nervous system.

A cut on your finger begins healing without you having to tell it how. You don't have to schedule a meeting with your body and say: "Okay, let's start repairing that tissue now." It already knows what to do. Your body is designed to heal, adapt, recover, and maintain balance. That is the foundation of the Human Engine.
Your Body Is Not Fragile
We live in a world that can make us afraid of our own bodies. We're told that getting older automatically means falling apart. That aches and pains are inevitable. That we should avoid movement because we might hurt ourselves. That once something is worn down, there's nothing we can do.
The reality is much more encouraging. Your body is remarkably resilient. That is what we believe and know is true at The Human Engine Clinic. Bones can remodel. Muscles can become stronger. The cardiovascular system can adapt to increased activity. The nervous system can learn. Balance can improve. Movement can become easier. Habits can change. The body is constantly adapting to the environment we give it. And that's where things get interesting.
Your Body Adapts to What You Give It
Remember our first four weeks? We talked about how physical, chemical, and emotional stresses accumulate. We looked at posture and how the way we hold ourselves can influence how our body functions. We talked about movement and why joints, muscles, and the nervous system need regular motion.
There's a common thread running through all of them:
Your body adapts.
Give your body regular movement, and it adapts to movement. Give your muscles resistance, and they can become stronger. Give your body nutritious food, and you're providing the raw materials it needs to function. Give yourself adequate rest, and you create an opportunity for recovery.
Give your nervous system constant stress with no recovery, and your body adapts to that, too. Your body is always listening. The question is: What are you teaching it?
Healing Isn't the Same as "Never Having a Problem"
Being healthy doesn't mean you'll never experience an injury, illness, stiffness, or pain. Life happens, ask anyone who has lived long enough to experience a life challenge, or several. You fall. You strain something. You get sick. You age. You experience stress. Your body encounters challenges.
The remarkable thing is your body's ability to respond. It’s nonsense to think you will never get sick or experiences stress, that's impossible. But you can build a body that is better prepared to handle sickness, recover from stress, and adapt to changing demands. That's resilience.
The Human Engine Needs the Right Environment

Think about a plant. You can have the healthiest seed in the world, but if you put it in poor soil, give it no water, and keep it in complete darkness, you're not creating the environment it needs to thrive.
The human body is different—but the principle is similar. Your body has incredible capabilities. But it needs the right environment. That environment includes:
Movement to keep the body active and capable.
Nutrition to provide the raw materials needed for healthy function.
Sleep and recovery to allow the body time to repair and recharge.
Healthy posture and mechanics to reduce unnecessary physical stress.
Stress management to give your nervous system opportunities to recover.
Chiropractic care to help support healthy spinal and joint function.
No single one of these is the magic answer. Together, they create a better environment for your Human Engine.
This Is Where Chiropractic Fits

Simply stated, Chiropractic care helps your body function better - period. Your nervous system coordinates virtually every activity in your body. Your spine protects an important part of that nervous system and provides the framework through which your body moves. When joints aren't moving properly, the surrounding muscles and joints may compensate. When movement is restored, the body has an opportunity to function with greater freedom. That is one of the reasons chiropractic care can be such an important part of a healthy lifestyle.
But chiropractic is only one piece. Chiropractic is part of a larger strategy for helping your Human Engine function at its best. For your body to heal, adapt and thrive, there are several aspects to address. That is why Dr. Gringeri's Human Engine Approach™ is so successful, and what sets The Human Engine Clinic apart from other clinics.
The Human Engine Approach™
Rather than looking at your body as a collection of disconnected problems, the Human Engine Approach looks at the person as a whole.
How are you moving?
How are you eating?
How are you sleeping?
How is your posture?
How are you managing stress?
How well are your joints functioning?
What habits are helping you?
What habits are working against you?
Small improvements in several areas can create a surprisingly large difference over time. The Human Engine Approach utilizes markers for Fuel, Oxygen, and Spark and how well they are performing for you. These simple markers can determine whether you are living life to your fullest, or living life with chronic disease and discomfort - and all the stress that goes along with that life. I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'm pretty sure you prefer a life without disease and discomfort.
Small Changes. Big Results.
You don't have to change your entire life tomorrow. Start with one thing. Walk a little more, drink more water, eat a better breakfast, or get to bed a little earlier. You can take movement breaks during the day, or improve your workstation. Strengthen your body by doing some exercises. Practice better posture and come see us for some chiropractic adjustments. Get your spine and joints checked. Then build from there.
The trick, or skill, is to figure out what your Human Engine needs and provide that on a consistent basis. At the Human Engine Clinic we provide you with knowledge so you can make better decisions. Your body changes over time and you are likely to have different requirements 5-10 years from now than what you require today. Those of you armed with information will be able to transition through life’s hurdles far better.
Designed to Thrive
Your body was designed to do more than simply survive, it was designed to:

move
adapt
recover
learn
strengthen
heal
and experience life.
And while none of us can control everything that happens to our bodies, we can influence the environment we create for them. That's the smart thing to do and it puts you squarely in control.
Your health isn't just something that happens to you. Every day, through hundreds of small choices, you participate in creating it. Good or bad, those choices are yours. So, remember what all the mom’s say to their kids when they leave the house for school - "make good choices!" That goes for you too.
"Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try." — John F. Kennedy (attributed)
"Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try." — Yoda

Three Things You Can Do This Week
Choose one thing to improve. Don't overhaul your entire life. Pick one habit that would make your Human Engine's environment better.
Think in systems, not symptoms. Instead of asking only, "How do I get rid of this problem?" ask, "What can I do to help my whole body function better?" Then call The Human Engine Clinic and make an appointment - (408) 984-7444.
Build your health one small choice at a time. A walk. A nutritious meal. Better posture. More sleep. A movement break. A chiropractic checkup. Small choices become patterns—and patterns become results.
Dr. Gringeri's Human Engine Tip
Your body is not the enemy you have to fight. It's the incredible machine you have to learn to work with. Give your Human Engine the movement, nutrition, rest, care, and healthy habits it needs. Create the conditions for progress. And then let your body do what it was designed to do - heal, adapt, and thrive!
Looking Ahead...
This completes the Chiropractic portion of The Human Engine Living Well Series. But we're just getting started. We've learned that the body keeps score. We've discovered that posture is more than appearance. We've seen why motion is essential to healthy function. And we've explored the remarkable ability of the Human Engine to heal, adapt, and thrive.
Next week we'll turn our attention to another essential part of the Human Engine: Nutrition & Digestion. Because every engine needs fuel—and what you put into your body can make a tremendous difference in how well that engine performs.
Your Health Journey Continues
