The Benefits of Glutathione
Have you been feeling more tired, rundown, coming down with colds or the flu? Have you noticed a lack of energy or increased aches and pains that weren't there a couple of years ago? Are you just unable to recuperate as quickly from exercise and physical activity as you once were?
It's not just you "getting older", we promise....
There is a naturally occurring substance that acts as a powerful antioxidant, immune system booster and even detoxifies the body. This is a substance that can help your body repair damage caused by stress, pollution, radiation, infection, drugs, poor diet, aging, injury, and generalized trauma. It's called "Glutathione".
What is Glutathione?
Also called GSH, glutathione is the most prevalent and powerful antioxidant in your body. The best known antioxidants are vitamins C and E. Glutathione is a tripeptide molecule composed of the amino acid cysteine and glycine, which exist in almost every cell of one's body. The glutathione level actually indicates one's state of health and can predict potential longevity. Scientific evidence has shown that glutathione is needed by the body to enhance the immune system response. There are more than 60,000 published papers on the beneficial effects of glutathione replacement therapy. Unfortunately, its benefits are still largely ignored by mainstream medicine.
The Bad News....
Your body's cellular supply of glutathione begins to decline 10 to 15 percent per decade beginning at about age 20. Therefore, if you are significantly older than 20, you are likely to have a glutathione deficiency. Lower levels of glutathione can result in chronic illness, lowered energy or fatigue, a weakened immune system, cellular damage, accelerating aging, and higher cellular inflammation which results in increased muscle and joint aches and pains. Free radicals are constantly attacking our cells which is why antioxidants are so vital to protecting our health. Glutathione has been called The World's Most Powerful Antioxidant and is found in every cell in the body, but due to aging, most people need some help to maintain proper levels.
The Good News....
Research has shown that increasing your glutathione level can have these benefits:
-Increased energy
-Detoxification of the body and improved liver function
-Strengthened immune system
-Reduced inflammation in organs and muscles
-Slow down of the aging process
-Reduction of the risk of cancer
-Improved mental function and clarity
-Improved heart and lung function
Uncontrolled inflammation is a root cause of the most major health issues ranging from heart conditions to joint and muscular conditions. Abundant glutathione levels can offset the effects of this inflammation at the cellular level. Because glutathione is in every cell, it can regulate inflammation throughout the body. Adding antioxidants to your diet is a tremendous help, but it is glutathione that is most important for protecting healthy cells.
This information is in part from Richard E. Tapert, DO. Dr. Gringeri also had the good fortune to heart Dr. Mark Houston give two short talks on this subject at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester, NY. Among other remarks, Dr. Houston was quoted as saying, "Glutathione is the most potent of intracellular antioxidantsx. Deficiency of glutathione levels can increase the risk of hypertension, myocardial infarction, pre-diabetes and diabetes, chronic pain syndrome, cancer, infections and oxidative stress." Proper levels can be beneficial in reducing the risk of these unhealthy conditions.
